Chemspeed celebrates its 10th anniversary with Bayer HealthCare

January 7, 2012

Chemspeed recently celebrated 10 full operating years with Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals (Bayer) in Berlin, Germany it runs five Chemspeed instruments in its laboratories. Building on the instrument reliability, Bayer is now moving to the next generation of Chemspeed’s equipment. Chemspeed was contacted by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals eleven years ago. The idea was to support the medicinal chemistry projects at Bayer using automated parallel synthesis which needed to be as flexible as possible. Chemspeed had developed the Chemspeed Synthesizer ASW2000 which was the first and only equipment which met Bayer’s needs at that time. Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals bought the Synthesizer ASW2000 and later on, the Accelerator Synthesizer. Today, Bayer has five Synthesizers that are used on a regular basis. Each Synthesizer is programmed and configured identically, allowing easy exchange of program files or system accessories like reactors. The Chemspeed Synthesizer is the only fully integrated and automated workstation in the world for reaction preparation, synthesis (ambient pressure and pressure up to 100bar), work up, purification, analysis, output to storage vials / plates, incl. chemistry under inert gas (e.g. handling BuLi) and low-temperature (down to -70°C). Chemspeed’s instruments are still relevant today as the project orientation became even stronger recent the years. At Bayer, the project share for libraries nowadays is approaching 90%. Dr. Koppitz, Senior Scientist at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals said: “We like the platform approach which can be easily adapted to the different requirements at Bayer.

About Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals' goal is to discover products that will improve human health worldwide by diagnosing, preventing and treating diseases. As a specialty pharmaceutical company, they focus their efforts where they can have the most impact. For more than 100 years, Bayer has been dedicated to developing, manufacturing and marketing pharmaceuticals. Built on the company's long history of providing medicines that healthcare providers and patients can trust, Bayer is one of the most recognized brands in healthcare. Additional information

Complementary and Spatially Resolved Operando Spectroscopic Investigation of Pt/Al₂O₃ and Pt/CeO₂ Catalysts during CO/NO Conversion

The composition of reaction mixtures strongly influences the structural evolution and performance of noble metal-based catalysts. In this work, we compared the effect of the simultaneous presence of CO and NO on the noble metal state and CO oxidation activity of Pt/Al2O3 and Pt/CeO2 catalysts under close-to-stoichiometric conditions using complementary in situ/operando X-ray and infrared spectroscopic techniques.

Influence of the CeO₂ Morphology and Initial Pd–Pt Interaction Degree on Catalyst Activity and Stability

Due to its peculiar properties and strong interaction with noble metals, ceria is widely used as a catalyst support for numerous applications. In this work, morphologically pure and highly crystalline ceria nanocubes and nanorods were prepared to systematically investigate both the impact of the support morphology and Pd–Pt interaction degree on the noble metal-support interplay during CO oxidation.

High-throughput RAFT Polymerization via Automated Batch, Increment, and Continuous Flow Platforms

We report an automated strategy to conduct RAFT copolymerizations using a Chemspeed robotic platform capable of executing batch, incremental, and continuous monomer addition workflows under inert conditions. Copolymerizations of oligo(ethylene glycol) acrylate with benzyl acrylate (as a control) and fluorescein o-acrylate were conducted in toluene, THF, and DMF, with reaction progress monitored via ¹H NMR spectroscopy at defined intervals.
